Norton listings

Norton, a town in Bristol County with a population of 19,000 is a community that is a big draw for golf enthusiasts as the host location for the Deutsche Bank Championship. The TPC Boston golf club is also the site of an annual tournament on the PGA Tour route, which takes place the over weekend following Labor Day.

Settled in 1669, the town was named North Taunton at that time due to its positioning at the upper border of Taunton, but the town name was changed to Norton upon its establishment in 1710.

This community has an interesting history sprinkled with the stuff of legends, with its inclusion as part of the Bridgewater Triange that has remained a part of the urban folklore for years. Sightings of everything from UFOs to ghosts and Bigfoot have been reported in this area. Another tale originating in Norton involves the demise of the Wampanoag Indian sachem Metacomet, widely known as King Philip. Legend has it that he sought refuge in a Norton cave near the end of the war in his name in the days just before his death. Elementary school children in Norton were told the story of James Wetherall, who was said to have sold his soul to the devil. An impression characterized as the devil's footprint is visible at Joseph C. Solmonese Elementary School.

All the folklore aside, Norton has a lot to offer its citizens in terms of services and community engagement opportunities. Norton's police station neighbors its town hall, and three staffed firehouses exist in locations throughout the town. There are two post offices here, one of which is next door to Wheaton College, and citizens also have the benefits afforded by a public library.

A one-bedroom furnished studio space on at the Foxboro-Norton Hotel on Washington Street is one of many long-term rentals available. The upside of taking up residence here is that utilities and cable television service is included in the rent! Each suite has conveniences including a stove top, refrigerator and microwave to give them a homey feel, and laundry facilities are available on-site. Those who lead busy lives need not worry about keeping up with the cleaning because housekeeping services are offered here as well.

For those who prefer a house to apartment living, a find like the ranch-style three-bedroom home with a full bathroom could be just the thing. This Main Street dwelling features hardwood floors, a finished basement, a spacious yard and a two-car garage.
