In the late 1800's, Jamaica Plain was a summertime destination for wealthy Bostonians who built resort homes around Jamaica Pond. Now, it is one of Boston's most diverse & dynamic neighborhoods. Centre Street is considered the neighborhood's commercial center, and is home to some of Boston's best ethnic restaurants, shopping, & entertainment. Jamaica Plain, or "JP" as many call it, also has great open space, such as Jamaica Pond which is located at the edge of Boston's Emerald Necklace. Longwood Medical area is also located nearby.
